From 22- 27 February Minister Anna Maria Anders was on a business trip in Italy. She began her stay in Milan where she visited the headquarters of Leonardo Helicopters - a company that designs, manufactures, develops and supports a wide range of modern helicopters. Since 2010 the Polish manufacturer of PZL helicopters - Świdnik has been affiliated with Leonardo Helicopters.

 

During her stay in Milan Minister Anders also visited a Polish school supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland. In her presentation she spoke about her father, General Władysław Anders, and her own experience of growing up in a bilingual environment. Born and raised in Great Britain, she spoke Polish at home and English at school.

 

Members of the Polish community from northern Italy also attended the meeting and the Minister explained the policy of the Polish Government regarding the repatriation of Poles to Poland. She encouraged the Polish community to maintain ties with their homeland and to promote the Polish language and culture abroad.

Minister Anders  was able to attend an AC Milan football game at the invitation of the organizers. The club’s newest star is Krzysztof Piątek from Poland.

 

From Milan Anna Maria Anders travelled to Rome for meetings with the Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini and the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guglielmo Picchi. During the meetings Minister Anders spoke about Polish-Italian relations and the potential for future collaboration between the two countries.

Minister Salvini confirmed his attendance at the ceremony marking the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino in May 2019.
